Hanoi welcomes two more craft villages to join the global creative handicraft network.

The event, organized by the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, aims to practically celebrate major national holidays, promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of handicrafts, and showcase the image and people of Vietnam and Hanoi to international friends.

The recognition of two traditional craft villages in Hanoi , Chuyen My and Son Dong, has increased the total number of Hanoi craft villages participating in the network to four, following Bat Trang pottery village and Van Phuc silk village, which were honored in 2024.

Hanoi welcomes two more craft villages to join the global creative handicraft network. The Chuyen My mother-of-pearl inlay and lacquerware craft village and the Son Dong fine art lacquer carving craft village have been recognized as members of the World Creative Cities of Crafts network.

This is not only a recognition of the unique cultural and artistic values of traditional craft villages, but also opens up great opportunities to promote the image of Vietnamese culture to the world, foster cooperation, exchange experiences, and promote trade between Hanoi and cities in the global creative crafts network.

Hanoi currently has 337 craft villages and traditional craft villages that have been recognized by the city. This is an important resource for the capital city to promote the value of cultural heritage associated with tourism development, ecological agriculture, enhance product value, and develop the rural economy in a sustainable direction.

According to the organizers, the highlight of the program is the certificate awarding ceremony on the evening of May 8th, with the presence of leaders of the World Crafts Council from various continents and representatives from many localities.

Within the framework of the event, from May 8th to 10th, a series of activities will take place showcasing, demonstrating, and creating typical handicraft products from Hanoi and many provinces and cities nationwide. The event space is arranged into several thematic zones such as the mother-of-pearl inlay and lacquerware area of Chuyen My, the lacquerware sculpture area of Son Dong, Bat Trang pottery, Van Phuc silk, the OCOP product area, tea culture, cuisine, flowers and ornamental plants, and horticulture.

In addition, the delegation from the World Craft Council will have working sessions with city leaders, visit craft villages, historical sites, and cultural heritage sites in Hanoi, with the aim of exchanging experiences in preserving and developing craft villages, improving designs and packaging, building brands, and expanding markets.

The fact that Hanoi continues to have more craft villages join the global creative handicraft network further affirms the position of the capital city, a land of “hundreds of crafts,” a creative and dynamic city in international integration, and in sustainably preserving the traditional values of our ancestors.
